In 1955 (Showa 30), Japan, which had lost much in the last war, had recovered. However, as forms of entertainment became more diverse, the popularity of rakugo slumped. Amidst this, a handsome young man, Hananoya Umenojo, appeared like a comet in the world of rakugo. Every day, the vaudeville hall was packed to capacity to see him. Umenojo was always pampered by the audience and the host, but there was one thing he lacked as a rakugo performer... and that was "talent." A boy who continues to perform on stage despite having no talent, and a girl who has talent but cannot get on stage. This is the story of two young people who risk their lives for laughter and survive the rough seas of talent and tradition.
